Upgrading Management Systems to Fuel Proactive Improvements

Too often, organizations measure the success of their improvements or initiatives based on where they were, as opposed to the rate at which they are improving relative to the competition. Sure it’s great to enjoy the positive effects of changes happening around the organization.  Effective leaders, however, also recognize the need to look ahead, even beyond their industry at times, to innovate and to offer customers bold promises. Creating a perpetual process for proactive improvement helps organizations take control of their destinies rather than being victims of the economy or a highly competitive marketplace. In this discussion Ray shares how to create that perpetual process for proactive improvement by upgrading management systems – creating flexibility around priorities, communication and rewards to attain higher standards of performance and ever-bolder levels of growth.

Ray Attiyah is the Founder and Chief Innovation Officer of Definity Partners, a hands-on training, process, and leadership improvement firm. Ray received his Bachelor of Industrial Engineering from Rutgers University and MBA from Xavier University. Ray's initial on-the-job leadership and operations management training came in the healthcare and medical industry with Johnson & Johnson (J&J) where he served in various management, operations, engineering, and project leadership roles. His initial roles at Ethicon Endo-Surgery required Ray to rapidly improve and radically change how this mid-sized division performed in order to grow quickly and profitably into the leader in the endoscopic and surgical market. Subsequently, Ray accepted the leadership role of Director of Operations for Johnson and Hardin with the goal of accomplishing similar business improvement successes. Johnson and Hardin, a mid-sized printer, is where Ray honed the leadership and business improvement expertise more suited for mid-sized, family-owned or privately-held organizations which often lack the resources of a J&J and need more management training at all levels of the organization.

Inspired by his desire to train and seek break through improvements Ray founded Midwest Manufacturing Solutions (MMS) in 1996, what is now Definity Partners. He has lead hundreds of companies towards fearlessness through sustainable improvements and growth. In addition to leading Definity he is a passionate speaker, writer, and contributor to a number of publications as well as the author of The Fearless Front Line: The Key to Liberating Leaders to Improve and Grow the Business, due out March 2013.

Ray lives in Cincinnati, Ohio with his wife and three daughters. He serves on the board of a number of non-profit and for profit organizations as well as advises a number of start-ups. He is an avid soccer and poker player and despite his desire to win a World Series Poker Championship he is now content to just win a World Series bracelet.
